Earth's Atmosphere and Weather

Making Rain

Shows students firsthand the processes of evaporation and condensation at work.

Floodplains

Brings engineering and design concepts to the idea of protecting buildings in a floodplain from the effects of storms, flooding and erosion.

Air Pressure Bottles

Enhances the students' understanding of air pressure and its' effects.

Radiation Bottles

Introduces radiation and demonstrates how different colored objects emit different amounts of radiation to the surroundings, resulting in different internal temperatures.

Kool-Aid Barometers

Introduces students to atmospheric pressure and how it changes with altitude and weather systems.

Kool-Aid Data Sheet

Designed to accompany the Kool-Aid barometer activity above.

Weather Maps

Teaches the basics of reading weather maps, including air masses, wind barbs and fronts. Provided by the GK-12 program at the University of Maine. (pdf only)
