Conservation of Energy

Recycled Paper

Students make recycled paper and gain a better appreciation for the benefits of recycling.

Potato Battery

Provides students with a basic introduction to circuits and explains how batteries work.

Pendulum Change

Uses pendulums to show energy transfer, teaches experiment design and illustrates relationships between variables.

Electromagnets

Links the concepts of electricity and magnetism, students will construct and test the strength of an electromagnet.

Mystery Circuits

Students learn to distinguish between open and closed circuits.

Magnetic Boats

Helps students to understand the concepts of magnetism and magnetic poles.

Parallax: How Far are the Stars?

Students measure the distance to a light source using a parallax they have constructed.

Wavelength and Frequency of Light

Students will discover and verify the relationship between wavelength and frequency of the Electromagnetic Spectrum.

Camera Room

After constructing a Camera Obscura, students explore the nature of light.

Circuit Design

Communicate ideas with drawings and simple models. Identify a specific need for a product and determine whether a product will meet a specific need.

Electric Motors

Construct an operating electric motor while demonstrating electromagnetic principles.

Solar Oven

Uses the concept of heat transfer to "cook" nachos. The solar oven uses an alternative energy source to serve the purpose of a conventional oven.

Yogurt Speakers

Illustrates the role of electricity and magnetism in the real life application of a speaker.

Lemon Battery

Students experiment with electrochemistry and learn that a chemical reaction can produce an electric current.

Lemon Battery Worksheet

Student exercise for the Lemon Battery experiment.

Conductors and Insulators

Illustrates how conductors and insulators affect the flow of electricity.

Conductors & Insulators Worksheet

Student worksheet that accompanies the Conductors & Insulators lesson plan.
