Faculty Positions
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Carolina invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions: one each in structures and in transportation at the associate or full professor level, and one position in transportation at the assistant professor level, preferably with some academic experience.
- Candidates with a background in one or more of the following areas will receive special consideration:
- structures: materials, mechanics, rehabilitation and hazard mitigation of infrastructure;
- transportation: intelligent transportation systems, safety, operations, transportation economics.
- Appointments will begin on August 16, 2007 or January 1, 2008.
- Candidates should have a BS in civil engineering, a doctoral degree in civil engineering or related field, and the potential to become a registered Professional Engineer within a reasonable time.
- Successful candidates will be expected to
- teach undergraduate and graduate courses,
- direct graduate student research,
- publish in archival journals,
- establish a strong externally funded research program, and
- be professionally active.
The department has 19 tenured or tenure-track faculty positions, about five million dollars in funded research, and five faculty members received NSF CAREER awards in recent years. Excellent laboratory facilities are available and opportunities exist for interaction with several state and federal agencies, industry, and other organizations located in Columbia and vicinity.
