- Computational and Statistical Sciences, Savannah River National Laboratory. SNRL is interested in hiring a student now for some Visual Basic programming. They are also interested in making contact with students about potential summer internships for possible permanent hires later on.
If you have an interest in working at SRNL, and/or you’re from the Aiken area so you might be spending summer in that area anyway, or etc., then please send Dr. Duncan Buell an e-mail which he will collect and forward. If you are interested in SRNL and are going to be graduating this year or next, let Dr. Buell know.
SRNL's computational needs are all across the spectrum. They have some serious computers, and they have some networked desktops, and they have a significant network infrastructure to support in the lab. They are also very interested in cybersecurity issues, because they have to maintain a classified facility and they would like to get access to outside computing resources as well. Their goal in the next couple of years is to become a true high-end computing shop. It is a place in transition.
A US citizenship is a requirement for almost all positions at SRNL (Dr. Buell does not believe that green cards count). The clearance process takes several months, so they will need to start the process in about January in order to hire a summer intern.
- MicroStaff IT Internship. MicroStaff IT is a Microsoft Gold Partner training and consulting firm specializing in Microsoft .NET Development and information worker technologies (SharePoint, InfoPath, Windows Workflow). We also offer professional training and support on other products and services in the technology stack, including Microsoft database infrastructure (SQL 2000/2005), Microsoft Server products, VMWare GSX, and Cisco CCNA/CCIE. Our professionals develop courseware for Microsoft partners; teach professional courseware locally, online, and internationally; and consult with local and national enterprise clients.
We are looking for one or more part-time interns to assist with a wide variety of tasks. These tasks range from answering the phone late in the afternoon (sorry, someone has to do it) to pre-sales and marketing duties, course development QC (i.e., checking lab exercises), classroom computer configuration, software/hardware installation, web site maintenance, entry-level or support-class programming, or even technical support work during client migrations. Interns work closely with seasoned IT trainer/consultants from MicroStaff IT. We are a small shop located near campus, and we understand the responsibilities associated with being a full-time student, so we offer very flexible hours. An internship at MicroStaff IT is more than just a part-time job: we have placed several of our part-time staff into permanent full-time positions either internally or with other companies. Although all full-time Microsoft technical employees have at least one Microsoft premier certification and are Microsoft Certified Trainers, we place no prerequisites on interns other than a willingness to work, an interest in IT, and the ability to follow directions. If you are interested, please submit a bio/resume to jobs@microstaffit.com with a subject of "MicroStaff IT Internship" or call us at 803.799.7321.
If you are going to apply, please cc Ms Barb Ulrich (bulrich@cse.sc.edu) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering so that we have a record of someone making contact back to the company.
