Hometown: Bangalore, India
Major: Nuclear engineering
Degree level: Doctor of Philosophy
Gokul Vasudevamurthy joined the Nuclear Engineering graduate program at USC in May 2005 and is currently working towards this Ph.D., on high temperature nuclear fuel methodology for Gas Fast Reactors.
Currently, Vasudevamurthy's main aspects of interest are in new generation reactors, proposed by the United States Department of Engergy, including design and development of high temperature nuclear fuels and other reactor materials. The Carolina's Nuclear Materials Laboratory (NML) is also a prime partner with the Savannah River National Laboratory in this field of research.
Vasudevamurthy's career interests lie in the fields of nuclear materials and nuclear thermal hydraulics.
Says Vasudevamurthy, "Working at the USC-NML has given me an opportunity to use my diverse background in nuclear, electrical and mechanical engineering. The faculty at the department of mechanical engineering are one the finest I have come across in my five years of graduate life. The department has always upheld the spirit of intellectual innovation and camaraderie. I feel proud and grateful at the same time to be a part of this department and the research in a premier institution like the University of South Carolina."
