The 76 node cluster was named after Nick Metropolis (1915-1999)
for his contributions to math, science and computing. Metropolis was
a mathematician, physicist, and computer scientist who was well
known for his work in building the computers MANIAC I and MANIAC II
in 1952 and 1957 respectively. NICK is the most powerful cluster at the University of South Carolina. |
