Computer Labs and Printer Usage

There are seven computer labs divided amongst two buildings that are serviced by the Information Technology Services Department. Each lab is equipped with a laser printer with five labs (1D11, 1D15, 1D29, 3D22 and B211/212) containing 28 computers, lab B205 contains 33 computers and lab B202 contains 35 computers - all of which are running Windows XP Professional operating system and the departmentally sponsored software.

To view the applications that are installed in each labs, please go to List of available applications.

Also, available to the students, are scanners which are located in 1D29, 3D22 in the Swearingen Engineering Center and B202 in the 300 Main Building.

Print Quota

The College of Engineering provides free laser printing to all authorized users in the College Labs. We will implement print quotas so that we may continue to provide the free service and prevent the abuses, which are jeopardizing this service. The Executive Committee of the College has approved this initiative in order to contain the escalating cost of the abuses to this service.

If you have exceeded your print quota, you will need to purchase a 500-sheet ream of un-opened laser quality paper and bring it to Room 1D35 in the Swearingen Engineering Center. Your quota will be increased by 150 sheets for every ream of paper you bring. This is because 70% of the cost is for toner. So you will only be given 30% of the paper that you bring in.

Please see the FAQ on responsible printing

Lab Computer Usage Policy

Users who leave a computer locked for longer than a reasonable 15 minute break will be subject to the loss of their engineering lab privileges.

The labs are here to support all Engineering Students, not just a select few. We provide the ability to lock the computers to allow users to take a quick break, such as a trip to the restroom. The student is responsible for saving all work before locking the workstation and leaving it unattended. Each week the lab will be imaged and the machines will be rebooted remotely. Therefore, if you leave the machine locked for a long period of time, your work will be lost if you do not save it. If you need to leave for a long period of time, you should log off so that other students have the opportunity to use the machine.
