For More Information

User accounts are maintained and managed by Veronica "Ronni" Wilkinson, Network Manager.

User Accounts

We create Windows Active Directory user accounts for all faculty, staff, and students of the college. User account authentication is required for access to the college's computing resources.

Student Accounts

For the first couple of weeks for each semester we pull data from the Registrar's Office and use that information for creating student user accounts. To get a student account the student must be registered as an Engineering student or enrolled in an Engineering course and must have paid fees. Otherwise approval from a faculty member is required.

As new accounts are created they are posted on the wall next to the door way of room 1D35 in the Swearingen Engineering Center, or you may contact the Help Desk in room 1D35. The student will need to bring and present his/her student ID card for password resets.

Forms are available in 1D35 of Swearingen for student account requests for times other than the start of the semester and for faculty approval.

Employee Accounts

Accounts for employees of the college are requested by the designated person for each department. The information necessary in creating an employee account is the person's first name, middle name, last name, suffix (Jr., Sr., etc), university ID number, and then their role in the department: faculty, staff, or research associate.

Choosing A Secure Password

When you sign in to our network for the first time, and every year after that, you'll be required to change your password. Many people, however, make the mistake of choosing a weak password during this process. This puts all CEC users at risk of malicious criminal activity and loss of access to resources. To help protect yourself and others from this threat to your privacy and identity, please read the following on choosing a secure password.

Reset Account Password Remotely

Windows XP users will need to double check their user account settings before attempting to reset their password remotely. To perform these instructions, you will need to have administrator privileges on the computer.

  • Navigate to Start Menu, Settings, and Control Panel.
  • Within the Control Panel, click on User Accounts.
  • Select User Accounts from within the User Account menu.
  • From the task menu, choose Change How Users Log On.
  • Make sure the first statement is unchecked.

To reset your account password remotely, you will need to login to the CEC network via a VPN or wireless network connection. Once you reset your account password, you will need to restart your computer. Keep in mind that changing your account password will affect your lab accounts.

  • Log in remotely to the CEC network via a VPN or wireless network connection.
  • Once logged in, press CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the Windows Security window.
  • Select Change Password... from the screen.
  • For log on, make sure ENGINEERING is selected.
  • Enter your current password and the new password and confirm the new password.
  • Click OK to apply the changes.
  • You will be prompted that your password has been changed. Click OK to continue.
  • Wait a few seconds until the Windows Security screen returns and click Cancel to return to the desktop.
  • Restart the computer and use your new password to access your account.

Note: You will need to update any saved password settings with your connections to the new password.
