Employment Predictions
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has just (November 2005) released its predictions of job openings in different occupational categories for the period 2004-2014. Of the thirty categories with the greatest percentage job growth, ten usually require a bachelor's degree for entry. For eight of those ten job categories, the relevant bachelor's degrees are offered in the College of Engineering and Computing and are indicated in the table below with an asterisk(*). These numbers, of course, reflect only the number of openings predicted for bachelor's degree recipients. The College of Engineering and Computing strongly encourages good students to continue on for advanced degrees. The job market for holders of advanced degrees from the college is equally strong. Salaries and working environments for those who stay for advanced degrees generally far outweigh the initial delay in entering the work force.
