Raising the profile of the college
Chemical Engineering
Dr. Harry Ploehn recently received funding from NSF for a $600,000 three year Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) project on polymer nanocomposites.
Civil and Environmental Engineering
Drs. Hanif Chaudhry and Jasim Imran recently received NSF funding for their Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) proposal, a five year, $2.5 million project.
Computer Science and Engineering
Dr. John Rose has been named to the editorial board of the Journal of Microbiological Methods. He is also director of the SC INBRE Bioinformatics Core (http://www.scidea.org/program/bioinformatics-core.html).
Electrical Engineering
Dr. Charles Brice is the 2007 recipient of the College’s prestigious Samuel Litman Distinguished Professor Award that recognizes particularly distinguished performance and accomplishments in effective classroom teaching. Brice is a leader in Project Lead the Way.
Mechanical Engineering
Professor Abdel Bayoumi is directing research on advanced military aircraft at the U.S. Army–funded Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) Research Center. The department organized a grand opening of the center on August 2 (http://cbm.me.sc.edu).
