Hotels
Here's a list of local hotels that may be of use to teams and volunteers coming from out of town for the regional. Clicking the street address will link you to Google's driving directions to the Colonial Center. This is 2006 data -- check back for updates on special rates! Out-of-town teams: Note that Columbia's area code is 803 -- be careful when dialing! These hotels are in downtown Columbia, many within a mile or two of the event venue.
These hotels are close to I-126, which allows for easy entry and exit from the venue and the interstate. Our webmaster's advice: When coming into the event, ignore Google and take the Huger (pronounced u-GEE) Street exit to the right when I-126 ends. Go straight for a while, then start looking for Todd & Moore Sports on your left after passing Gervais Street. Turn left on that street, cross the railroad tracks, and you're there. Take this route, and you'll avoid a few irritating traffic lights.
These hotels are among the furthest from the Colonial Center, but they're situated right in the Harbison Boulevard area, which is Columbia's largest shopping and entertainment area. Within a stone's throw are the largest mall in town, a half-dozen fast-food restaurants, three or four Applebee's-grade restaurants, two movie theatres, a mini-golf/go-kart/arcade facility, a bowling alley, and the nearest Lowe's and Home Depot to the venue, should your robot need that help.
Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is only about seven miles from the event, and there are several hotels along the way. For any Krispy Kreme addicts, the local store is in this area.
