  • Sponsored program and research awards at the University of South Carolina rose 6.7% over last year, totaling $185 million for fiscal year 2007. Carolina faculty achieved a 23% increase in funding from the NSF.

Department Chair -- Civil and Environmental Engineering


The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the College of Engineering and Computing, University of South Carolina, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair.

The department offers B.S., M.S./M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The department has 16 full-time faculty, an undergraduate enrollment of over 260 students, a graduate enrollment of 60 students, and over $1.5 million in research expenditures for each of the past three years.

New leadership in the college has made growth of the department a high priority.

  • Qualified applicants are expected to have:
    • outstanding leadership and administrative skills,
    • a strong record of research performance,
    • dedication to education, and
    • credentials (including a Ph.D. in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field) commensurate with appointment as a full professor with tenure in the department.
  • Nomination letters should include statements regarding the nominee’s relevant credentials.
  • Applications should include:
    • a current résumé,
    • a statement of professional interests and vision,
    • and the names, affiliations, and contact information (including e-mail address and telephone number) of at least three references.
