The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) is a college on the move. We grow and adapt to our rapidly changing world. We are the home of a National Science Foundation Fuel Cells research center.
Awards and Fellowships
Our students are consistently garnering awards and fellowships, such as the following:
- Research gets real results: Magellan Scholar program participant, Stefani Biechler, second-year chemical engineering student
- Discovery Day, a celebration of undergraduate research on the Columbia campus: Grand Prize winner, Nishita Dalal, chemical engineering; Biomedical second place, Heather Mentzer, chemical engineering; Engineering and Computer Science first place, Nishita Dalal, chemical engineering, second place, Kelvin Moore, chemical engineering, and third place, Anna Pickerell, chemical engineering; and Oral Presentations - Section 2 first place, Robert Freeman, civil engineering.
- Chemical Engineering student named Goldwater Scholar: Fahmin Basher, a junior double majoring in Chemical Engineering and Biological Sciences, has been named 2007 Barry M. Goldwater Scholars. Fahmin, along with 317 students in the math, science and engineering fields, was selected from a national pool of 1,110 applicants. The one and two year scholarships will amount to $7,500 a year. The Goldwater Scholarship is awarded nationally to sophomores and juniors pursuing a bachelors’ degree in natural sciences, mathematics or engineering with intent to pursue a career in research and/or college-level teaching.
Career Opportunities and Recruitment
Additionally, many national and international companies and corporations give presentations and make recruitment efforts at CEC several times a year such as the BOSE corporation and Disney did in February 2006. Check our Announcements section on our home page for upcoming events.
Scholarships
Each year CEC awards scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships are from the USC’s general scholarship fund and designated for engineering and computer science students. Most scholarships are awarded based on competitive academic achievement. More
